UCx with WebEx enables you to send and receive SMS direct from UCx.

Benefits include:

To send and receive SMS messages through UCx with Webex add the ContextSMS BOT.

Step 1: Add the ContextSMS app (https://apphub.webex.com/applications/contextsms-sabrhub) to Webex.

This is a one-time process.

Click "Log in to add app +"

After logging in click "Add Bot+"

Select "Direct Message".

Select "Open in Webex"

*If you have the previous TPx SMS Bot added, right-click on the bot and select "leave".  The old SMS threads no longer work.  Backup any important messages.  Once you "leave" all message history from the bot will be removed.

Step 2: Start using the app.

Message the BOT to get started with sending and receiving SMS messages.

  • Say "Hi" to the App.  Search your Webex client for "ContextSMS" and initiate a chat.
  • The App will prompt you for the telephone number you want to text.  Fill in the telephone number as 11 digits, including the area code and a leading 1.  Select Submit”

  • The App will create an SMS space dedicated to that number. Rename it to something useful to you, such as, “Tyler Cell Phone”.
  • Any messages you send in the Tyler Cell Phone space will be converted to SMS and sent directly to the mobile number you entered. All messages received from that number will also show up in this space.

The old SMS threads no longer work , so you will have to add the numbers again

Please add the numbers again to be able to send SMSs by doing the below

You NEED to add a +1 now before the number
                            Example +12132136847

Receiving an SMS message

  • When the recipient responds from their mobile device you will see their response appear and display on the active message window.
  • If you receive an SMS message from a mobile number that you have not exchanged messages with, a new space will be created automatically. The message will be displayed in the space. Spaces are named in the format of “ + sendersphonenumber".

With TPxSMSApp messages looked like the following image:

Now with ContextSMS messages look like the following image:

Renaming an SMS Space

  • The App will create an SMS space dedicated to that number. Rename it to something useful to you, such as, “Tyler Cell Phone”.
  • To rename, right-click on the SMS space and select "Edit space information".

Type in the "Space Name".  For Example, Tyler Cell Phone.

  • Any messages you send in the Tyler Cell Phone space will be converted to SMS and sent directly to the mobile number you entered. All messages received from that number will also show up in this space.

Leaving / Deleting an SMS Space

Now you’re ready to send and receive SMS messages with your recipient’s mobile phone

  • You can leave the space at any time where you are having a conversation with a recipient through the Bot
  • To leave, right click the Space and select Leave

Things to note:

Do not remove the bot from any space that you are having an SMS conversation with a recipient. Doing so will impede your ability to SMS with that individual.

If the SMS service is giving an error or not working, please create a ticket so we can look into it and get the issue resolved.
